Week 7, Map Making!

This week’s project was to create a map, any which way we wanted!  I decided to go with a yoga theme, and to call my map “Journey Into Power.”  I started with the early stages of my life, and briefly discussed each area up until the present!  The online program that I used was called Prezi.  In a previous class we learned a bit about Prezi, but it wasn’t until now that I actually created my own with ease and enjoyment!  Prezi is a presentation software which brings presentations to life using motion, zoom, and spatial relationships. As I was making my Prezi, I really enjoyed how vague this week’s assignment was.  This was a great reminder, as a teacher, to allow my children CHOICE!  There is no better way than to create equity in an assignment than to take it on entirely!  I felt so much freedom in choosing how I wanted to create my map.  I didn’t feel like I was at a disadvantage, which is how I would have felt if the assignment was that we MUST watercolor a map to represent ourselves.  If we expect our students to invest in the curriculum, it’s important that they feel adequate with the bag of tools they come with.  I cannot draw, therefore any art project would have been an immediate disaster.  Choice allows students to take initiative in their learning, and take ownership for their skills.  Choice results in student-led learning.   Below you will find a link to my online creation.  I took screen shots of each phase, so if the link doesn’t work due to plug-in issues, let me know and I’ll post the pictures!
